WINTER BIRDING FESTIVAL 2026
Initiated in 2022, the Deepor Beel Winter Birding Festival (WBF) is held annually between December and January across different sections of the Deepor Beel Ramsar Site, an Important Bird Area (IBA). The festival aims to compare bird diversity within the lake during this period and understand the impact of the traditional fishing festival, “Beelmara”, on bird distribution.
This initiative seeks to generate consistent data for effective bird monitoring and provide science-based evidence to support the wetland conservation by the Deepor Beel traditional fishing community using Indigenous knowledge systems.
To commemorate this migratory season, 7WEAVES Research is hosting the fourth year of winter birdwatching event from 24th December 2025 to 17th January 2026. It is an annual five-day birding event held from December to January organized by 7WEAVES Research to celebrate the winter migration of birds.
